In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

TRAILER-

I chose to challenge the normal convention of having the production company at the start of the trailer and instead swapped this with the classification and then straight into the titles this was because I wanted the action to start very soon as well as warning audiences what content was to be in the trailer to avoid offence. I added the production company ‘Chiller Productions’ to the end of the trailer alongside all of the credits, adding this to my trailer used the Dyer’s star theory as the production company and all the music producer, makeup artist, director and producer all take part in how the success of the film is going to be regarded to most audiences. I chose the idea of ‘Chiller Production’ to show that the company specialise in horror films from the world ‘Chiller’, this will show that the horror film will be well constructed and more successful as that is all the production company produce adding more interest from the audience.

Normally release times are shown at the end of a trailer however I challenged this by choosing to have the very first title credit at the very beginning of the trailer and giving the exact date while following gothic features by quoting ‘THIS HALLOWEEN’ fitting in to a spooky annual event making the release day a massive success due to cliché celebrations. As well as this I added a further reminder however going back to follow the normal convention as I added ‘COMING SOON’ before the credits at the end of the trailer.

Through editing I followed the conventions of typical lighting within horror trailers by changing the brightness of colour within my clips this portrayed suspense and also an eerie effect on by trailer. Filming in night vision effects or in darkness enabled me to show to the audience the typical horror film conventions. As well as this I followed the conventions in regards to the sound adding low drones, high pitched violin signs and creepy wind sounds and even well-known spooky rhythms to my trailer this added further effect onto the clips building in tension and suspense within the trailer gripping the audience and making them jump from crash and bang sounds.

I followed the normal conventions in regards to my main character, in most horrors a young venerable character normally female is the victim of supernatural events which is exactly what I chose for my film/trailer. Following scenes inspired by films such as paranormal activity, REC and the idea of witchcraft from the conjuring I followed the typical trailer techniques with a unique way in order to grip my audience and ensure they watched my film.
